Need More Information About Advocating For Your Family Member?

Voice and Vision is pleased to announce that the first chapter from our 2015 book, Help and Hope: From Families Who Have Walked the Walk, has been updated and is now available free on our website. “Advocating for and Supporting Your Family Member” contains essential advocacy tips for families supporting loved ones with developmental/intellectual disabilities, mental health conditions, autism, addictions, and other challenges.
Peer support, an integral part of Voice and Vision’s mission, along with our vision to be “champions of hope,” propelled us to move forward with the second edition of our first book by updating one chapter at a time. Funds from the MidDay Foundation enabled us to start the process. Through our annual surveys and ongoing outreach, parents and guardians continue to report challenges in finding resources and not knowing who to turn to for guidance and companionship. To address these needs, this chapter includes stories from families and content-related resources. We also include an expanded resource directory covering Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery Counties at the end of the chapter.
Voice and Vision believes knowledge is power and sharing first-hand experiences is life-giving. Since the release of our Help and Hope Book Series 10 years ago, we have heard stories from many that the books have helped them find hope, feel less isolated, obtain resources, and build resilience by working with both professionals and peers. We will continue updating the book, with work on the following two chapters already underway: Developmental & Intellectual Disabilities and Autism Spectrum Disorder.
The Board and Staff of Voice and Vision appreciate you taking the time to check out the updated chapter. Also, if you haven’t already done so, please check out our second book in the series, “Substance Use: The Growing Need to Know,” which is available in its entirety on the same page. We hope you find the resources you need in both books. Please feel free to reach out to us if you need help or to provide feedback. Thank you.
