The Voice and Vision Regional InReach Team of Certified Peer Specialists and family members share their personal stories of recovery, resiliency and hope with the people who reside at Norristown State Hospital (NSH). Dynamic conversations about the principles of recovery and how to keep hope alive in difficult situations help to support people during the many changes at NSH throughout the past decade.
The work started with a Campaign of Hope in 2008. The Team went throughout the hospital distributing T-shirts and offering a kind Voice and new Vision of hope and resiliency to each person. Currently, the Team is a part of the overall programming at NSH. They create a safe atmosphere and continue to share their story and encouraging dialogue on pertinent topics such as transition, fear, disappointment, change, humor, gratitude, humility, recovery, communication, hope… and much more
“It’s important that we share our experiences with other people. Your story will heal you and your story will heal somebody else. When you tell your story, you free yourself and give other people permission to acknowledge their own story.” (Iyania Vanzant)
“Never underestimate the impact that your mere existence can have on another human being.” (Fred Rogers)
“Don’t let your circumstances dictate your willingness to share your life experiences. Your voice is needed.” (Bonnie D. Parkin)
